Mary H. HALE
(26 Feb 1814 - 23 Dec 1893)
The following obituary was found in Rick Blythe's great-grandmothers (Niece to James Cobb by marriage) album dated 30 December 1893 - probably a Sinclairville paper:
"Obituary - Our Mother
Mrs. Mary H. COBB, mother of the publisher of this paper, died at the home of her
daughter, Mrs. Emily A. DUNHAM, in the village of New Salem, Ill., at 2 o'clock on
Saturday morning last. She lacked but a few days of being 80 years of age. She was a
native of Otesgo county, this state, and was the daughter of Orrin HALE whose life was
largely spent in the town of Ellery. Of her father's family there are left three members,
Mrs. Emily Tompkins, John and Oscar HALE, all of Ellery. Deceased was a resident of
the village of Sinclairville for many years and was the wife of James COBB who died in
the place in 1865.
For the past twenty years she made it her home with her only daughter. Weary and worn
had become the physical frame and tottering had become her intellect. Her last words
were spoken to her daughter in response to the question if there was anything she wanted.
"I want to do right, I want to rest, I want to go home to father and mother!" Pease for aye
to you, venerated and beloved mother.
"Leaves have their time to fall,
and flowers to wither at the north wind's breath
and stars to set - but all
Thou hast all seasons for thinh own,
O Death!"
