I, Horatio Hammond, of the county of Knox and State of Illinois being now in the seventy eighth year of my age, and in the enjoyment of reasonable good health and of sound and disposing mind and while enjoying these blessings I desire to prepare for the hour of my death. I therefore make and publish the following as and for my true and only last will and testament.That is to say:
First, it is my will, that my executor hereinafter to be appointed, pay all my just debts and funeral expenses as soon after my decease as the interest of my estate will permit.
Second, after the payment of my debts and funeral expenses aforesaid and the costs and charges of settling my estate, It is my will and I hereby direct that whatever may thus remain of my estate of whatsoever nature or kind and whatsoever situate whether real, personal or missed be legally divided between my eight children, Amelia Hadley, Juliaett Simms, George M. Hammond, Francis N. Hammond, Jehial T Hammond, Lucius J Hammond, Cornelius R Hammond and Richmond F Hammond share and share alike in equal parts among them. to them their heirs and assigns forever.
And lastly, I hereby constitute and appoint my friend and neighbor John Calvin Burr to be the executor of this my last will and testament, hereby declaring the foregoing to be my only true last will and testament and hereby declaring all other wills by me heretofore made, entirely null and void.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this first day of July A.D. 1876

Personally appeared in open court, Francis Colton and Robert L Hamamon subscribing witness to the foregoing instrument of writing, purporting to be the last will and testament of Horatio Hammond, late of Knox County, deceased, who being duly sworn according to law, do depose and say, each for himself, that he subscribed his name to the foregoing instrument as the attesting witness at the request of said Testator and in his presence and in the presence of each other, on the First day of July A.D. 1876. That he then and there subscribed his name thereto in their presence, declared the same to be his last Will and Testament; and that the said Testator at the time of executing the same as aforesaid was of full age, of sound mind and memory, and under no constraint.
Subscribed and sworn in open court, this 14th day of November, AD 1879
