To all To Whom These Presents Shall Come, Greeting
know Ye, that William Sellers assignee of George Harlan and
James Crwford in his own right
having deposited in the General Land Office a Certificate of the Register of the Land Office
at Cincinnati whereby it appears that full payment has been made for
the Northwest quarter of Section Fourteen of Township Seven
in Range Two lying East of the Meridian line
of the lands directed to be sold at Cincinnati
by the Act of Congress, entitled "An act providing for the sale of the lands of the United
States in the territory north-west of the Ohio, and above the mouth of Kentucky river," and
of the acts amendatory of the Same: There is granted, by the United States, unto
the said William Sellers & James Cawford the quarter lot or
section of land above described: To have and to hold the said quarter
lot or section of land, with the appurtenances, unto the said
William Sellers & James Crawford their heirs and assigns forever, as
tenants in common and not as joint tenants
In Testimony whereof, I have caused these letters to be made
Patent, and the seal of the General Land-Office to be hereunto affixed.
Given under my hand at the City of Washington, the first
day of June in the year of our Lord, one thousand
eight hundred and sixteen and of the Independence
of the United States of America, the fortieth.

This indenture made the Eleventh day of December
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and
twenty one between William Sellers of the county of Preble of the
part and James Crawford Junr of the said county of Preble of
of the other part witnesseth that the said William Sellers for and
in consideration of the sum of three hundred dollars to the said
William Sellers in hand paid the receipt of which is hereby ackn
owledged have granted bargained aliened conveyed
and confirmed and by these presents do grant

bargain sell alien convey and confirm unto the said James Crawford Junr
his heirs and assigns forever All the following described lot tract
or parcel of land situate and lying, in the county of Preble and State of
Ohio being the west half of the northwest quarter of section no
fourteen in township no seven of range two east to be divided
by a north and south line equally
To have and to hold the said granted and bargained premises
with all the privileges and appurtenances to the same belonging or in
any wise appertaining to the only proper use benefit and behoof of the
said James Crawford his heirs and assigns and the said William Sellers
doth for himself his heirs executors and administrators do hereby cove
nant promise and grant to and with the said James Crawford in his
heirs and assigns that before the ensealing hereof the said William Sellers
was the true sale and lawful owner of the above bargained premises and was
lawfully seized and possessed of the same in his own right as a good
perfect and absolute estate of inheritance in fee and had in himself
good right full power and lawful authority do grant bargain sell con
vey and confirm the said bargained premeses in the manner aforesaid
And the said James Crawford his heirs and assigns shall and may from
time to time and at all times forever hereafter by force and virtue of these
presents lawfully peaceably and quietly have hold use occupy possess
and enjoy the said demised and bargained premises with the appurte
nance free and clear and freely and clearly acquitted exonorated
and discharged of and from all and all manner of former or other
gifts grants sales or incumberances of what name or nature so ever that
might in any measure or degree obstruct or make void this prsent
deed. Furthermore the said William Sellers for himself of his
heirs executors and administrators doth covenant and engage the above
demised premises tohim the said James Crawford his heirs and assigns
against the lawful claims of any person or persons whatsoever
forever hereafter to warrant secure and defend by
these presents In testimony whereof the said
William Sellers and Sally his wife have here unto set their hands

nowledged the within deed of conveyance to be their voluntary
act and deed for the uses and purposes therein mentioned

This indenture made the eleventh day of December
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twen
ty one between James Crawford Junr of the county of Preble of
the one part and William Sellers of said county of the other
part witnesseth that the said James Crawford for and in cons
sideration of the sum of three hundred dollars to the said
James Crawford in hand paid the receipt of which is here
by acknowledge has granted bargained aliened conveyed and con
firmed and by these presents do grant bargain sell alien con
vey and confirm unto the said William Sellers his heirs and assigns
forever all the following described lot tract or parcel of
land lying in the county of Preble and State of Ohio
being the East half of the Northwest quarter of section
No 14 in township no seven of range two east

power and lawful aauthority to grant bargain sell convey and con
firm the said bargained premeses in the manner aforesaid
And that the said William Sellers his heirs and assigns
shall and may from time to time and at all times for
ever hereafter by force and virtue of these presents
lawfully peaceable and quietly have hold use occupy possess and enjoy
the said demised and bargained premeses with the appurtenances fee
and clear and freely and clearly acquitted exonorated and discharged
of and form all and all manner of former or other gifts grants
bargains sales or incumberances of what name or nature soever
that might in any measure or degree obstruct or make void
this present deed
Furthermore the said James Crawford for himself his heirs executors
and administrators doth covenant and engage the above demised
premises to him the said William Sellers his heirs and assigns against
the lawful claims of any person or persons whatsoever. Forever
hereafter to warrant secure and defend by these presents

The State of Ohio Preble County
In the Matter of James Crawfords Will
Be it remembered that heretofore to with before
the Probate Court within and for the County of Preble
and State of Ohio, held at the Court House in Eaton the
28th day of July Eighteen hundred and fifty four, by
John V. Campbell Judge of said Court the last will
and testament of James Crawford late of Gasper Township
in the County deceased was this day brought before
the Court and was proved by the oaths of Isaac Stephens
and Edward Laning two of the witnesses thereto whose
examinations were reduced to writing, and it
appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that the said
James Crawford at the time of executing said will
was of full age of sound mind and memory
and not under any restraint. It is ordered that
said will and the proof so reduced to writing be
recorded. And thereupon our motion of Nelson G. Crawford
the Executor in said will named. It is ordered that Letters
Testamentary be granted to the said Nelson G. Crawford
who thereupon gave in Undertaking with William
Duggins senr. and Nathaniel R Lockwood security
to the acceptance of the Court in the penalty of
Eight hundred Dollars conditioned according
to law whereupon it is ordered by the Court that
Joseph L. Campbell, John Halderman jr and
Thomas Stephens appraise the personal property
of said estate said will is in the words & figures
following to wit. I James Crawford, of Preble
County Ohio, do make and publish this my last
will and testament in the manner following
and first. It is my will that all my just debts
and funeral expenses be fully paid out of my estate
and secondly, I give devise and bequeth

to my wife Sally Crawford the full use privilege and
benefit of all my estate both real and personal to be held
used, occupied and enjoyed by her during her natural life
for the purposes of affording her a comfortable and competent
support and maintainance during her said natural life and
for no other use or purpose. I give and bequeth to my
grand daughter Mary Ann Wikle fifty dollars to
be paid to her out of my estate within a reasonable
time after the death of my said wife. I give and
bequeth to my grand daughter Martha Jane Stoner
fifty Dollars to be paid to her out of my estate at the
time last above mentioned. And lastly, I give, devise
and bequeth to my son Nelson G Crawford all the residue and
remainder of my estate both real and personal of every kind
and description whatever to be held used occupied and
enjoyed by him and his heirs and assigns forever as an
absolute estate of inheritance subject however to the
incumbrance of the life estate herein created in favor
of my said wife and the two legacies herein before mentioned
to my said grand daughters. I wish it distinctly understood
that at the decease of my said wife and on payment of the
two legacies above mentioned my said son Nelson is to
have all of my estate and property, real and personal
of every kind and description whatever as I have said
before and I do hereby appoint my said son Nelson
G. Crawford Executor of this my last will and
testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my
hand and seal this 25th day of October 1851

The State of Ohio Preble County Probate Court of Preble
County July 28th AD 1854. Personally appeared in open Court
Isaac Stephens & Edward Laning of lawful age, who being duly
sworn depose and say that the paper writing now exhibited in Court
is the last will and testament of James Crawford late of Preble County deceased
That they saw him sign and heard him acknowledge the same; that they
signed the same as witnesses in his presence and at his request and that at the time
of executing the same, he was of full age, of sound mind and memory, and not
under any restraint. I, Stephen E Laning, Sworn & subscribed
in open Court the 28th day of July AD 1854, John W. Campbell, Probate Judge
And afterward to wit: before the Probate Court aforesaid, to wit
on the 3rd day of October AD 1854 Sally Crawford widow
of James Crawford late of this county deceased this day
appeared in open court and made her election to take
the provisions of her deceased husbands will in lien
of her dower.
