The Last Will and Testament of John James, tanner, of Hafodlas, Llanddewi Brefi.(St David's1799. SD/1799/109 W)
The will was made on the 4th of July 1799.
He gives to his wife Averina the use of the properties of Tai’rAllt, Llanfair Clydogau, Cardiganshire and all monies associated with them.
He gives to his wife Averina and daughter Margaret jointly,six cows, four horses and twenty sheep and all the crops growing and standingat Hafodlas, Llanddewi Brefi. They also are given the use and profits ofHafodlas. Averina and Margaret are to pay son James £10 (£628.50 in 2005) a year for life.Averina is also given the farming implements and their use. If Averinare-marries then she gets her chest and clothing along with 2 guineas (£131.99in 2005). All the above properties, livestock and goods would go to daughterMargaret with an extra grant of £100 (£6,285.00in 2005). Son James would be responsible for this payment when hetakes charge of Hafodlas and when Margaret becomes 21 years old.
He gives to daughter Anne the sum of £300 (£18,855.00 in 2005) in goods andmonies. However, if she were to marry Jenkin Williams then she should receiveno more than £50 (£3,142.50 in 2005).
