Military
He was a private with the Royal Welch Fusiliers, 2nd London Welsh Battalion (No: 35440) then with the 13th Cheshire Regiment (No: 52058). He served with the Expeditionary Force in France and he received a gunshot wound to the right leg on the 21st of October 1916. He also suffered from trench foot. On the 25th of October 1916 he was taken for treatment in England aboard the St David Hospital Ship in Boulogne. He rejoined his regiment on the 1st of January 1917.Death
Probably at the Battle of Passendale. His body was never identified.Burial
In Memory of Private DAVID LLOYD 52058, 15th Bn., Cheshire Regiment who died age 26 on 20 August 1917 Son of Lewis and Sarah Jane Lloyd, of Esgergarn, Llanddewi-Brefi, Cardiganshire. Remembered with honour THIEPVAL MEMORIAL. (Pier and Face 3 C and 4 A).He is remembered on the family grave stone at Llanddewi Brefi village cemetery. Although he was killed in Belgium it states on the grave stone that he was buried at Guillemont Farm, north west of St Quentin. Guillemont village is situated about six and a half miles east of Albert in the valley of the Somme. There is no record of his burial at Guillemont.
The British War Medal and the Victory Medal was sent to his parents at Esgairgarn.
