Joseph is recorded in the 1861 census as being single inspite of being married in 1854. His wife and children were back in Robleston with his widowed father. He was viviting his sister and her family in Swansea.

Living with Joseph on census night 1911 was his unmarried niece Jane Williams Kelly. She was born in Uruguay in abt 1872.
