Will
The will of John Griffith, yeoman, Llangunnor (SD1764)The will was made on the 24th of April 1764.
He gives to his mother Elinor the annual profits from the field known as Cae Newydd, Llangunnor which was in the tenure of William Jenkins, butcher and Nicholas Jones, victualler, of the county borough of Carmarthen, his brother-in-law. He commands his executors to maintain and support his mother for her natural life. He also gives to his (illegitimate) son James Griffith, who was living with him, the sum of £12 (£897.48 in 2005) for support him in any trade or calling that he might undertake. He commands that James be maintained until he reaches the age of 14 years.
He gives his brother-in-law Thomas Griffith of Llandyfeilog one coat, waistcoat and brooches together with his daily grooming apparel to be delivered immediately after his death.
He gives to his afore mentioned brother-in-law Nicholas Jones a coat and brown coat with waistcoat and brooches known as his wedding suit to be delivered immediately after his death.
He leaves everything else to his natural son John Griffith (by his late wife Mary). He nominates his son John as his sole executor,(although still an infant at the time). He therefore nominates Rees Griffith, yeoman, of Tref Barsod in the county borough of Carmarthen, along with the above mentioned Nicholas Jones to be joint guardians to John. If his heir John should die then he states that his sister Mary (wife of Nicholas Jones and sister Anne (wife of Thomas Griffith) should have claim to his estate.
An inventory of the goods and chattels of John Griffith (farm stock, implements and household goods) carried out on the 2nd of May 1764 amounted to £101 2s. 10. (£7,564.39 in 2005).
