Burial
Nov. 4, 1871 The Republican Leader page 3 column 2Death of Mr. D.J. Jenkins
Mr. J.H. Parry brings us the sad intelligence of the death of an esteemed and highly respected citizen, Mr. D.J.Jenkins, of Bangor, La Crosse county, Wisconsin, a native of Wales. Mr. Jenkins departed this life at his home in Bangor on Monday night at twelve o'clock, October 30th, surrounded by friends and relatives. Mr. Jenkins has been a resident of Bangor for more than sixteen years, during which time he has enjoyed the confidence, respect, and esteem of good citizens of this county.
His heart and purse have always responded to the wants of the needy, in the cause of humanity, christianity, and benevolence; a man of firm convictions, a true friend and valuable citizen, his loss will be deeply regretted by the hosts of warm personal friends who have felt the pressure of his honest hand and enjoyed the hospitality of his generous household. Mr. Jenkins had suffered for years from a pulmonary affection and about a year ago he sailed for the land of his nativity accompanied by his talented faithful loving wife in pursuit of health, returning to Bangor about six weeks since, feeble and exhausted without sufficient vitality to recover from the hardships of the journey.
Mr. Jenkins was forty-two years old, in March last. The grief stricken wife and relatives of the deceased are surrounded with multitudes of earnest friends who will strive to comfort and cheer them in their affliction and sorrow. On Friday, November 3, 1871, Mr. Jenkin's remains will be buried with Masonic honors. The funeral service will take place at 12 o'clock, noon,to which the friends of the deceased are cordially invited.
