WOOSTER -- Edwin Bruce "Ted" Evans, 87, of Wooster, died Sunday, May 4, 2008, at West View Manor Nursing Home.Following cremation, a private family service will be held. A Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, Aug. 9, at 4 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Wooster. McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home in Wooster, is handling arrangements.
The family wishes to express its thanks and grateful appreciation to the staff and volunteers of West View Manor for their compassion and care for Ted during the past four years.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Wooster, 243 N. Market St., Wooster 44691; or Village Network, P.O. Box 518, Smithville 44677.
Born May 11, 1920, in Canton, the son of Rhys Dafydd and Mary (Chappelear) Evans, he married Marjorie G. Carlson. She survives.
He was a general manager for Dix Co. Broadcasting Group and was associate publisher for the Ashland and Cordelle, Ga. papers.
He was a staff sergeant serving in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Wooster, where he had served on church boards and sang in the choir for 50 years. He was also a member of Wooster Rotary Club, had served on the Board of Boys' Village, the Alumni Board at Ohio University, the Bank One Board and was a member of Phi Mu Alpha Music Fraternity and Delta Tau Delta.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are daughters, Rebecca Margaret Vlisides of Saline, Mich., Priscilla Juliane (Mark) Hoffman of Chagrin Falls and Mary Annette (Frederick) Reber of Mooresville, N.C.; grandchildren, Erin (Jeff) Cebulski, Evans (Joelle) Boeve, Kurtis and Russell Hoffman, Abigail and Mary Reber; and a great-granddaughter, Lydia Rose Cebulski.; nephews, D. William (Josephine) Evans of Wooster and David Evans of Toledo; and a niece, Diane L. Crawford-Evans of Savanah, Ga.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert B. and D. William Sr.
