Cornelius was names after Cornelius Le Brun, a Dutch mining engineer who married Anne, daughter of Colonel John Jones of Nanteos. Cornelius became High Sheriff of Cardiganshire in 1676. Their only daughter Averina married William Powell. The Powells occupied Nanteos until 1951.
