EDEN Payton Edward Jeffries, 91, died Thursday morning, Dec. 9, 2004, a t M o rehead Nursing Center. The funeral service will be held at 2 p. m. S a turday at the First Church of the Brethren. Burial will follow in O ve r look Cemetery. Mr. Jeffries was born Dec. 18, 1912 in Rockingham C o u nty, to the late John Henry and Lily Belle Murphy Jeffries. He was a m e m ber of First Church of the Brethren and was active in his community. M r . J effries was a member of the Y's Men Club for many years, a member o f t h e El Bethel Ruritan Club and was voted Outstanding Member of the El B e t hel Community Club. He retired from Fieldcrest Mills after 50 years o f s e rvice. Surviving is his wife of over 71 years, Madge Bowman Jef fr i es of Eden; son Douglas Jeffries of Fla.; daughter Mrs. Jackie (Lill i e M ae) Merriman of Spencer, Va.; brothers, Curtis Jeffries and Oliver J e f fries both of Eden; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; thre e g r eat-great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by a daughter, C a r ol Jeffries Jones, six brothers, three sisters and three grandchildre n .
