Enlisted on 24 July 1861 as a private in Company E, 21st Indiana Infantry. He was transferred out on 1 Feb. 1863. On 1 Feb. 1863 he transferred into Company E, 1st Indiana Heavy Artillery. He re-enlisted on 1 Jan 1864. He mustered out on 13 Jan. 1866. Promotions: 1st Sergeant to 2nd Lieut.
