Daniel Kellogg

(1630 - 1688)

The son of Martin & Prudence (Bird) Kellogg, he was baptized in Great Leighs, Co. Essex, England on February 6, 1630. He was the brother of Lieut. Joseph Kellogg. According to THE ANCIENT HISTORICAL RECORDS OF NORWALK by Edwin Hall, p. 187: "Daniell Kellogge tooke to wiffe Bridgett Bowten, the daughter of John Bowten, and was married at Norwake, Anno 1665". She was the daughter of my ancestors, JOHN & ALICE (KELLOGG) BOUTON.

In records dated March 20, 1656, the name of Daniel Kellogg was given as being present at a town meeting. He was made a freeman for Norwalk at the General Assembly in Hartford on October 13, 1664. On April 23, 1679, it was voted that Daniel Kellogg shall join the committee carrying out the work on the meeting house. He drew lot #30 in the Norwalk division of land in 1686. His home lot was described as being four acres bounded east by Matthew Marvin, Jr & Sr. & Thomas Fitch, Sr's home lots, west by Joseph Fenn's home lot. He was a selectman for Norwalk in 1670, representative for Norwalk to the General Court in Hartford often between 1670 and 1683. In 1673, his estate was valued at 125 pounds and he had six children.

He has been described as one of the largest men of his time in stature, muscular and athletic.
