Individual Details
(17 May 1758 - Bef 1826)
Abigail Plympton was married twice, and her first husband Nathan Read must have been a no good husband. In his 1786 will, her father leaves a bequest to his daughter Abigail Read now the wife of Nathan Read, but has this bequest in a type of trust controlled by the executor. She is allowed the interest on 50 pounds, but this interest is to be paid by the executor for the "sole relief and support" of Abigail so long as she remains married to Nathan Read. If she survives Nathan, the whole amount is to be paid to her. At the 1789 probate, she signs as an heir as Abigail Plympton. In 1791, she married Jotham Goodenow as Abigail Plympton. She did have at least two children with Nathan and the whole story is not clear. I wonder if she divorced Nathan.
