On 30 Nov 1769, James Carlton of Andover, yeoman alias cooper, with his wife Elizabeth, inconsideration of £100, conveyed to Samuel Phillips of Andover a 16-acre tract of pasture and woodland that had been willed to James by his uncle Benjamin Barker. On 21 May 1770, James Carlton cooper of Andover with his wife Elizabeth,in consideration of £50, conveyed to Josiah Long of Andover one acre of land with a dwelling house in Andover.[1][1] MassachusettsLand Records, Essex County, 123:187, 133:185On 13 May 1772, James Carlton yeoman of Rindge, for payment of £44, purchased 18 acres in Rindge from Joseph Worcester of Rindge. This consisted of stockanimals, farming utensils, chaise, notes due to the estate, and any otherpersonal estate whatsoever. Also on 1 April 1814, the other children of Jamesand Elizabeth, for payment of $1,600, quitclaimed to David Carleton all theirinterest in the estate, both real and personal, of their honored father JamesCarleton. These were Amos Cutler and his wife Elizabeth or Rindge, Obediah Carletonof Rindge, Jacob Haskell and Susanna his wife of Harvard, Massachusetts, andLuther Page and Polly his wife of Weathersfield, Vermont.
