On 16 February 1796, Zachariah Stevens, merchant of Gloucester with wife Elizabeth relinquishing right of dower, mortgaged to the widow Elizabeth Stevens of Gloucester a piece of land lying in the harbor adjoining on Fore Street containing about twenty poles, for $1,333. The mortgage was discharged on 26 December 1796, the widow Elizabeth Stevens having received from Zachariah $1,600 with interest.[1]
