Military
On 14 August 1832, Peter Stevens of Pawlet aged seventy-three provided a statement related to his service. He enlisted from Glastonbury in June 1776 in the company of Capt. Samuel Welles in Col. Gay’s regiment. They embarked on a sloop at Wethersfield and sailed to NewYork where the regiment was formed. The troops went to Long Island, White Plains,and North Castle where he was discharged 25 December 1776. In September 1777,he was drafted for two months in the militia in the regiment of Col. Newbury of Windsor. In August 1779, he was drafted for two months in the company of Capt.Smith. In 1780, he went to Pawlet, Vermont to work in his trade as a joiner,and from there he volunteered in the company of Capt. John Stark and served about fourteen days. In his statement, he reported he was born in Glastonbury on 6 May 1759. He reported removing to Pawlet in 1792. Peter was awarded a pension of $38.20 per annum. On 13 April 1850, Joel Stevens, heir-at-law of Peter Stevens, made application for bounty land.[1][1] U. S.Revolutionary War Pension and bounty-Land Warrant Application Files, Case S19109
