Probate – guardian appointed in 1835 as unable to carefor himself; regular probate 1836https://www.americanancestors.org/databases/worcester-county-ma-probate-file-papers-1731-1881/image?volumeId=30230&pageName=58573:1&rId=720627906 On 10 February 1835, the selectmen of Uptonpetitioned Hon. Nathaniel Paine, judge of probate for Worcester County,requesting that a guardian be appointed for Joshua Tenney as he was incapableof taking care of himself or his property. Joseph B. Chapin was named guardianon 3 March 1835. An inventory of his estate taken 14 March 1835 showed a29-acre homestead with buildings valued at $500 and personal estate valued at$103.31. After Joshua’s death, Jonathan Nelson was appointed to administer hisestate. Inventory on 1 October 1836 valued the homestead at $450. The remainingpersonal estate was not sufficient to cover the debts of the estate and thereal estate was sold. On 28 August 1832, JoshuaTenney, aged eighty-seven years and resident of Upton, applied for a pensionbased on his service in the Revolution. He was born at Mendon on 1 April 1745.Her served from Upton in the Continental army from 1 July 1775 to 1 January 1776in the company of Capt. John Bolster, resident of Col. Learned, this company previouslyraised with eight-month enlistments. His service was at Roxbury. He served(drafted) in the Massachusetts militia from 1 December 1776 to 1 March 1777 inthe company of Capt. Gershom Nelson, regiment of Col. Whitney. He was draftedfor another four weeks in the militia company of Capt. Baker and marched fromUpton to Albany, but by the time they arrived at Albany the troops at thatplace “marched to some other place.” He served the Massachusetts militia inJuly 1780 under Capt. Baker.
