In his will written 25 March 1754 (probate 24 September 1770), Jonathan Shepard bequeathed to beloved wife Joanna her thirds of the estate as the law directs as it is her choice. Other bequests were to daughter Hannah Dow wife of Stephen Dow and his three sons Jonathan Shepard, James Shepard, and Thomas Shepard. Son Jonathan was named executor.
