Will
In her will dated 3 October 1812 (probate 5 May 1814), Mercy Carleton makes bequests to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren the sons and daughters of her son Daniel each receives eighty-four cents: Daniel Carlton,Timothy Carlton, Jacob Carlton, Kimball Carlton, Mercy the wife of Enoch Wilson, Hannah the wife of Jonathan Johnson, Phebe the wife of Joseph Hadley,and Molly Carlton. Granddaughter-in-law Hannah Carlton widow of grandson Amos and her two daughters, Hannah Farnum Carlton and Mary Carlton, receive her wearing apparel. Great-grandsons the sons of grandson Amos receive bequests:James Farnum Carlton, the desk; Amos Carlton, the large chest with three drawers; and Daniel, the small chest with the case for bottles. Other furniture bequests were made to her two great-granddaughters and the residue of the estate to be divided among her five great-grandchildren. Abijah Fuller was named executor.
