He might die by 1813 -- that is when Ruth Barker "free agent" first starts to sell land in Sudbury that was given to her by her aunt Mary Willis (will 1779; probate 1805). The 1805 probate suggests that Ephraim may have absconded to parts unknown

Death
The Ephraim that married Ruth abandoned his family some time between 1800 and 1805 described as “absconded to parts unknown” in a probate file for Ruth’s aunt Mary Willis. Ruth Barker was listed as the head of household from 1810 on. Ruth died at Sudbury, 27 Jan 1843. Ruth inherited her aunt Mary’s estate and beginning in 1813 sold off portions of the land every few years listing herself as a “free agent” in the deeds.Endnotes
