There is a little uncertainty about which wife was his mother. The birth dates for the children have some conflicts and the timing of the death of his second wife. John and Elizabeth have a daughter in Dec 1766 so this John could not be born in May 1767 which is in the Barbour records. All the published genealogies (which copy from each other) gives his birth year as 1768.
