Lieutenant Jonas Butterfield served from Westmoreland in Maj. Benjamin Whitcome’s Independent Corps of Rangers of the 2nd Regiment of Col. Jonas Butterfield was bornin Westford but after the early death of his father was in Westmoreland wherehis mother and siblings also settled. Jonas built with Ephraim Brown an earlysawmill in Westmoreland. Jonas had a 116-acre farm property at the time of hisdeath. He was a housewright by trade. Jonas served as selectman of Westmorelandin 1781.
