On 12 June 1818, Benjamin Dole of the town ofJefferson in Schoharie County, New York, aged 73 years and 28 days, madeapplication for a Revolutionary War pension. On 1 March 1781, he enlisted fromJaffrey, New Hampshire for a term of three years in the company of Capt. Senterand Capt. Benjamin Ellis, regiment of Col. Henry Dearborn. He was discharged atNewburgh, New York 7 June 1783 having obtained a substitute for the remainingeight months of his term. On 7 June 1820, Benjamin provided additionalinformation on his circumstances. He had no real estate and listed a fewpersonal items. His household was his wife Rachel aged sixty-two years andMatthew Hawkins aged ten years old. The pension file includes Benjamin’sdischarge signed by Gen. George Washington.[1][1] U. On 4 June 1796, Benjamin Dole, Jr.of Jaffrey (likely Benjamin’s son), sold a tract of land in Grafton toCornelius Baker of Grafton (who was the spouse of Benjamin and Relief’sdaughter Betty).
