Military
pension file – W19628 On 23 November 1839,Hannah Wheeler, aged 83 years and resident of Montpelier, Vermont, made anapplication for the pension for widows of Revolutionary War soldiers. JosiahWheeler first served from Plainfield, Connecticut in 1775 in the company of Capt.Waterman Cleft in the sixth Connecticut regiment which marched to Roxbury. Thatterm of service was seven months, eight days. His second enlistment was July1776 in the company of Capt. Chester Wells with service in New York for threemonths. His third enlistment was in the Connecticut regiment commanded by Col.Isaac Sherman with service of five months, seven days. Hannah reported she andJosiah married at Plainfield on 18 March 1777 and that he died on 11 April1828. On 23 November 1839, How Wheeler, eldest son of Montpelier, provided astatement in support of his mother’s application. She had not previouslyapplied for a pension as she had been living in Canada with one of her sons anddid not know she was eligible for a pension.
