Notes
Property
David and his brother John obtained property fromtheir father Thomas, later mortgaged the property which was then foreclosed andsold.[1] deed indexhttps://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-99Z3-W9MC-V?i=395&wc=MCBY-Y68%3A361613501%2C363557001&cc=2106411he is involved with deeds noted with his brotherJohn above [1]Massachusetts Land records, Middlesex County, 57:506, 67:570, 68:150On 28 May 1795, David Oakes of Hartford,Connecticut, for payment of £36, purchased from Samuel M. Lewis and DavidSeymour part of lot number five in the second range and third division of Springfield,Vermont, containing half an acre with buildings. On 25 February 1797, DavidOakes of Springfield purchased one and one-half acres of lot number five in thesecond range from Daniel Ball for payment of fifty dollars. On 10 April 1795,David Oakes of Springfield sold to David Oakes, Jr. of Rockingham, Vermont twoacres of lot five in the second division for payment of one hundred and seventydollars.[1] Springfield deeds – 2:144, 2:187, 2:201, 4:737,6:234, 4:307; 4:737 is for David Oakes, Jr. selling 2:144 – the David Oaks who goes to Springfield,Vermont is from Hartford, Connecticut so this may all be wrong – unless he goesto Hartford and then to Vermonthttps://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C3Q7-VQQL-Y?i=80&cat=556946:234 – 1822 – a Nancy Oakes who is the wife ofDavid Oakes of Springfield – so, this seems messed up – or David the son has asecond wife Nancy which seems really possible – yes, second wife is NancySeymour or she is widow Nancy Nichols Seymourhttps://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C33J-HH9F?i=124&cat=55694 Index Springfieldhttps://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSHS-LQXY-4?i=87&cat=55694deed bookshttps://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/55694?availability=Family%20History%20Library [1] VermontLand Records, Town of Springfield, 2:144, 2:187, 2:201Biography
And there could be a daughter Lucy born in 1778 anda Ruth born in 1786 – willtry them and see – leaving them out with a note In Families of Early Hartford – has a mention of achild of David dying at Hartford in 1786 at age 2https://archive.org/details/familiesofearlyh00barb_0/page/424/mode/2upRecord transcriptions for children David and Marysay parents David and Abigail but that seems just an error – David gives middlename Mead to two of his children – the record for the Mary seems unclear theway the transcription is given – Mary might marry Samuel Cobb at Springfield in1798Maybe there is a daughter Nancy who marries inSpringfieldOakes in History of Springfieldhttps://books.google.com/books?id=XnthDOdmsD0C&q=daivd+oakes#v=snippet&q=oakes&f=falseEndnotes
