Probate
In his will written 19 April 1817 (probate 18February 1821), Timothy bequeaths to beloved wife Betsy to whole of thehousehold furniture to be hers forever except for the cherry desk and bookcase,hour clock, and largest looking glass. Betsy also receives a horse and chaiseand two good cows. She also has use of the east side of the house while she isa widow. There is also a lengthy list of provisions to be provided and sonsSessions and Erastus are to pay her ten dollars each yearly. If Erastus doesnot provide for his mother, she shall have the right to her one-third dower ofthe real estate. Eldest son John receives a bequest of land and the best suitof wearing apparel. Second son Sessions receives a land bequest and the silverwatch. Fourth son Erastus receives the homestead farm. Third son Joseph receivesfive dollars which completed his portion. Daughter Mehitabel Paine wife ofDaniel Paine receives two hundred dollars as do daughters Betsey Dunlap wife ofJohn Dunlap, Mary Lathrop wife of Ezra Lathrop, Lucy wife of Job Angell, and Hartwife of Allen Harris. Sons John Lester and Sessions Lester were namedexecutors.
