Military
On 25 September 1832,Jonas French then aged seventy-five years (reporting he was born at Dunstable on 17 August 1757) and resident of Dunstable, Massachusetts made applicationf or a pension related to his service in the Revolution. He entered service 27 April 1775 from Dunstable and joined the company at Cambridge of Capt. Samuel Gilbert in the regiment of Col. William Prescott. He continued his duty as a private until early January 1776 when his term expired. At the end of that term, he went with Maj. William Bacon from Cambridge to New York, Maj. Bacon having about forty men under his immediate command. The unit was in West Chester, New York,was involved in the action at Harlem Heights, another near the stone church at West Chester, and the Battle at White Plains. He was discharged near Fishkillin January 1777. His brother William provided a statement in support of his application. Jonas was granted a pension.[1][1] U.
