Probate
In his will written 5 Aug 1792 (probate 6 November 1792),David Holt bequeathed to true and loving wife Hannah the use of one-third of the real estate during her natural life specifying that this was one-third as it is now before deductions for debts and charges. The remainder of the estate was left to his six children Hannah Turner, Jain Holt, David Holt, Azubah Holt,Lydia Holt, and Kendall Holt specifying that the sons would receive one-quarter more than the daughters. Real estate was valued at £175. The widow’s dower was set off the Hannah on 5 April 1793. The final settlement was 16 January 1794 with the distribution of the remaining £30.7.5 after the deduction of the widow’s allowance, debts, and expenses to the six children of the deceased: Hannah Tuner, Janie Holt, Azubah Holt, Lydia Holt, the legal heirs of David Holt who died since his father, and Kendall Holt.[1][1] Hampshire County, MA: Probate File Papers,1660-1889.
