Richard Nick did not leave a will and his estate entered probate 4 September 1782 with widow Mary as administratrix. Personal estate was £20.17.0 and real estate was a lot in Hillsborough County valued at £50. On 13 April 1837, Mary Nick aged eighty-five years, widow of Reading, made application for the widow’s pension based on her husband’s service in the Revolution. Richard Nick served in Col.Glover’s regiment from Marblehead in 1775 and 1776. She recalled that her husband came from Boston to see her at Reading following the birth of their second child which occurred 24 February 1776. Following that, Richard the sea service from Salem in an armed ship under Capt. Fisk and then was in a ship under Capt. Brown. He continued in service until the time of his death including the time he was a prisoner of the enemy. He was captured and taken to Halifax where he was detained about four months until he was exchanged. He was again captured and taken to New York where his brother had previously been taken. He was again exchanged but became sick on his way home. She received a letter that he was taken sick and at Providence. She went to him but arrivedfour days after his death. Richard died on 15 August 1781. Mary reported her name before marriage was Mary Bixby and she married Richard Nick at Marblehead on 17 September 1772. They had four children together the last child born on 3 December 1779, and she has remained a widow since his death.[1][1] U.
