Biography
On 11 June 1833, JamesButterfield, aged eighty-eight years of Corinna, Maine, provided a statementfor his pension application. Ine 1775, he was member of the Minute Man companyof Capt. Henry Farwell, Col. William Prescott that marched to Lexington at thealarm on 19 April 1775. He participated in the Battle of Lexington. He servedfor three weeks, and immediately after enlisted at Cambridge for eight months Ithe same company and was discharged 1 January 1776. He then enlisted for twomonths in the company of Capt. Haskell and was discharged in March 1776. InJuly or August 1776, he enlisted for five months in the company of Capt.Zachariah Fitch and was discharged at Ticonderoga in December 1776. He was bornin Pepperell in 1744. He lived at Groton at the time of his enlistment. Helived in Norridgewock about thirty or forty years and has lived at Corrina forten years. A supporting statement was provided by Amos Adams,[1]aged 86 of Albion, Maine, who served with James. His claim was allowed. On 16September 1837, Susanna Jenkins applied for the widow’s pension.[2][1] AmosAdams was son of Mephibosheth and Jane (Derby) Adams.[2] U.
