On 19 April 1818, Uriah Ballard aged fifty-nine years of Oxford County, Massachusetts made application for a pension based his service in the Revolution. He served seven years as a musician (drummer) and non-commissioned officer. In January 1776, he enlisted for one year in Capt. Mann’s company of Col. Reed’s regiment on the New Hampshire line. He enlisted for a three-year term in April 1777 in the company of Capt. Isaac Frye in Col. Scammel’s 3rd Regiment of the New Hampshire line. At the end of this term, he re-enlisted as Sergeant in the same company and served until 20 December 1783 when he was discharged at West Point.He was at the Battle of Trenton, the capture of Burgoyne, the Battle of Monmouth, the Battle of Newton in Sullivan’s expedition, the Battle of Kings Bridge, and the capture of Cornwallis. On 25 July 1820, Uriah provided further information on his circumstances. He reported owning some livestock, farming tools and carpenter’s tools. His household was wife Hannah aged 42 years and healthy,daughter Betsey aged 14, son George aged 12, daughter Percy aged 10, daughter Elmida aged 8, son William aged 6, and daughter Hannah aged 1. Uriah was granted a pension based on his service which was temporarily suspended in 1820 due to the value of his estate. He was reinstated 19 July 1821 after reconsideration of his case.[1][1] U.
