Notes
Property
Jonas Spalding resided in Canterbury,Connecticut and New Marlborough, Massachusetts. On 1 June 1756, Jonas Spaldinghusbandman of New Marlborough, for payment of £29, purchased half of seconddivision lot number 16 in New Marlborough from Phinehas Brown. On the samedate, Samuel Spalding (likely son of Jonas) purchased the other half of the lotfor £20.[1]The Phinehas Brown making the sale was likely brother of Jonas’s second wifeBridget Brown. No deeds were located related to the later sale of these twoproperties.[1]Massachusetts Land Records, Berkshire County, 5:135, 5:141Biography
Berkshire deeds – 5:135 and 5:141 is a SamuelSpalding buying -- Jonas buying in NewMarlborough in 1756; https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L9Z8-L8PP?i=73&wc=MCBR-GP8%3A361613101%2C362515601&cc=2106411and the 5:141 is Samuel buying the other half of the lot – so the Samuel couldbe either his brother or a son of Jonas; there are no deed records fordisposing of the property. The Phineas Brown who sells Jonas and Samuel theproperty would be the brother of Bridget Brown the second wife of Jonas --there is no probate record for Jonas or Samuel Spalding – I have found thebirth records for the children of Jonas and Rachel – Although marriage saysRachel Boswell she is Rachel Cleveland – her mother Mary remarried to a Boswellwhich is why it says Boswell on the record (daughter of Mary)Endnotes
