Individual Details
Elizabeth Holmes mnu
(Abt 1614 - 17 Feb 1698)
Elizabeth's maiden name is not really known. Some people say it is Madden. On 4 September 1638, Francis Baver, of Scituate, was presented for offering to lie with the wife of William Holmes, & to abuse her body with uncleanness. In 1661, Elizabeth Holmes was accused of being a witch by Dinah Silvester. Elizabeth was cleared of these charges, and Dinah was sentenced by the Court for making this accusation to either pay William Holmes five pounds or to be publicly whipped; she also had the option of making a public acknowledgement of her fault and to avoid the other options. The latter option is the one she selected.
