Probate
In his will written 13 May 1853 (probate 26 Mar 1866), Moses Chamberlain bequeaths to daughter Mary F. the wife of Hale E. Crosby ten dollars which is in addition to what he had previously given her. Son Mellen Chamberlain receives one hundred dollars in addition to previous amounts. Son Henry Chamberlain receives ten dollars. Son William receives the East half of Section Fifteen of Town Eight South and Range Twenty West. This bequest to his son is subject to William providing support for Moses's wife Mary for the remainder of her natural life. If at any time Mary is dissatisfied with the support from William, and if the Judge of Probate of Berrien County finds she has reasonable cause for complaint, then Mary will receive an annual payment of seventy-five dollars paid quarterly. William also receives all the stock animals and tools. Wife Mary Chamberlain receives the rest of the real estate and all of the personal estate. This bequest to Mary is in full satisfaction of her dower thirds.
