Probate Court (Worcester County); Probate Place: Worcester, Massachusetts, Probate Records, Vol 56-57, 1821-1825, will of James Laws, 17 May 1821In his will written 17 May 1821, James Laws made the following bequests. Eldest son James Laws, Jr. receives all the farming tools. Son William receives $300. Sons James and William divide the wearing apparel. The heirs of oldest daughter Elizabeth Gibbs, who is deceased, receive $150. Daughter Anna Sawyer wife of Eli Sawyer receives $150; daughter Lucy Sawin wife of Benjamin, $150; and daughter Rhoda Locke, $150. The remainder of the estate is divided in sixth parts, one part to each of the children including the heirs of Elizabeth. Son James has a $500 note and he is to pay back this amount by giving $100 to each of his siblings. Eli Sawyer is named executor.
