Notes
Will
In his will written 4 June 1832 (probate 15 February 1848), James Barr bequeaths to beloved and affectionate wife Eunice the use and improvement of all the estate, real, personal, and mixed, during her natural life. If that is not sufficient to support her as she is accustomed, she is to receive from the capital of the estate what is necessary. After the death of Eunice, grandson Samuel George Rea will receive one thousand dollars and two shares in East India Marine. After the death of Eunice, unmarried daughters Eunice Barr and Nancy Barr will receive the use and improvement of the mansion house on Lynde Street, the land and outbuildings, and the household furniture. If either of his two other daughters come into destitute circumstances, then they will share equally with Eunice and Nancy in the household as long as they remain in destitute condition. After the deaths of daughters Eunice and Nancy, then the household items are to be divided in thirds among Sarah Rea, Priscilla Curwen, and to the children (Betsey Holman and Mary Holman) of daughter Betsey Holman who is deceased. Daughters Eunice and Nancy also receive use of pew no. 38 in St. Peter's Church in Salem. All the remainder of the estate is to be divided in equal fifths among his four living daughters and one-fifth to the children of Betsey.Essex County, Massachusetts, Probate Records and Indexes 1638-1916; Author: Massachusetts.
