Register of Wills; Probate Place: Luzerne, Pennsylvania, Will Index, 1787-1918, p 271In his will dated 9 August 1822 (probate 21 December 1822), John Cortwright bequeathed to wife Polly fifty dollars annually to be paid by sons Cornelius and Draper Cortwright, the use of one-third of the household items, and a room in the family home as long as she is unmarried.Daughter Hannah receives one hundred dollars. Son Cornelius receives one-half the landed estate to be taken from the south side of the farm. Daughter Roxanna receives one hundred-fifty dollars and son Charles receives four hundred dollars.Son Draper receives the other half of the land. Son Volany receives four hundred dollars and daughter Eliza Ann receives one hundred-fifty dollars. John elaborates that the real estate is to be kept undivided and jointly owned by Cornelius and Draper until Draper reaches age twenty-one. He also states that his coal bed in Wilkes-Barre can be sold if the executor thinks this in the best interest of Cornelius and Draper.
