Joanna was born about 1515, probably in Suffolk County, England. The particulars of her birth are not known at this time. Around 1533, she married Richard Scott, who was starting out to be a clothier in Glemsford, Suffolk. Suffolk was the center of the blooming cloth industry in England at the time. They were probably married in St. Mary the Virgin Church in Glemsford. Joanna and Richard had nine children between 1535 and 1555, all born in Glemsford. Joanna died in Glemsford in August of 1556 and was buried on the 23rd, in the churchyard of St. Mary the Virgin Church.
