Ezra Carter Abbott

Forest Abbott and children, Mary and Kilburne, returned to Cumberland, having been called here on account of the illness and death of his mother, Mrs. Abbott.

On Wednesday, April 20th, Mrs. Devillah Abbott was buried in the local cemetery, funeral services being held at the Presbyterian Church by Rev. SG Williams.

Mrs. Abbott was born Sept. 14, 1835, in Portage County, Ohio, and her maiden name was Devillah Sloops. She was married to Ezra Abbott on Nov. 18, 1854, and they lived in Ohio, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, and at Cumberland, WI, before coming to Couderay fourteen years ago when they made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Fred Ritter.

Nine children were born to them, five of whom are living: Mrs. Hannah Gillard of Anoka, MN; Mrs. Clara Clayton of Seawood, Nebraska; Daniel Abbott of Woodland, Oregon; Forest Abbott of Cumberland and Mrs. Fred Ritter of Couderay.

One sister and two brothers survive her. Mrs. Abbott, who would have been 92 years old on her next birthday, was preceded in death by her husband eleven years ago. He passed away at the age of 89 years.
