Will
Maryland Register of Will Records, Baltimore, Wills 1824-1827, volume 12, Folio 225, will of Pearl Durkee, 16 Nov 1825In his will written 16 November 1825, Pearl Durkee requests that his remains be deposited beside those of his last wife Charlotte Durkee formerly Charlotte Rose. He leaves all his lands in Yarmouth,Nova Scotia to his children to be equally divided among them: sons Robert, John, Pearl, and Stephen Durkee and daughters Ellenor Green, Charlotte Eugenia Constancia Phebe and Mary Elizabeth Durkee. As he has laid out considerable money for son Robert’s education, that will be considered his full portion except he also receives the gold-headed cane. Son John receives all the books and charts related to navigation. Daughter Ellenor receives the kind letters that she sent to her step-mother. Daughters Charlotte Eugenia Constancia Phebe and Mary Elizabeth are to be educated equal to the rest of the children. The remainder of the estate is to be divided among sons Pearl and Stephen and daughters Charlotte and Mary. He also specifies if any of these last four children (who were all minors at the time) become intemperate or profligates,then the executor is to retain their portions and disperse to that child as the executor feels is needed. Friends Abraham Price and Benjamin Buck were named executors.
Death
Yesterday afternoon, Captain PEARL DURKEE, in the 56th year of his age. His friends and acquaintances are particularly invited to attended his funeral this afternoon at 3 o'clock, from his late residence, No. 57, St. Patricks row, Marsh Market space.Endnotes
