The will of Henry Abbott was written 2 February 1805 and includes the following bequests: well beloved wife Phebe Abbot receives one-third of the real estate in Andover for her use during her life; after she is "done with it," two sons Henry and Isaac will divide that property. Isaac is the son charged with taking care of his mother. Son Henry Abbot receives a tract of land known as the Lovejoy lot and Peavy meadow. There are other land bequests and Henry also receives the silver tankard marked H.A.P. Daughter Phebe Porter wife of Jonathan Porter receives $50. Daughter Elizabeth Kneeland Abbot receives $600 in cash and she also receives State Note of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts valued at $186.84. Elizabeth also is to receive cords of wood delivered to her door as long as she remains unmarried. His wife Phebe further is allowed use of his clock and she can place it anywhere in the house she wants. She also receives use of the silver tankard marker I.A.P. as long as she remains a widow. And then at the end of the will, he changes his mind from her having one-third of the dwelling house to having one-half of the dwelling house for her use. Son Isaac receives the remainder of the real estate and buildings not otherwise disposed of in the will. Henry then goes on the describe the disposition of the estate if either of the sons dies before returning from sea. He also notes that if Isaac should die before his return from sea and if he shall not have made provision for "his particular friend Miss Charlotte Houghton," then Charlotte will receive $200 from the estate. His sons Henry and Isaac are named executors of the estate.
