The Abbott Genealogy book has him as the child of Nathan Abbott and Jane Paul. All of Caleb's marriages and death are in Andover; Nathan was in New Hampshire. The Granite State Monthly, volume 9, page 281 also lists Caleb as the son of Nathan.
Caleb died in 1837 at age 86 making him born in 1751 which is before the time, by several years, that Nathan and Jane married.
