John Tilley was born in England, but had traveled to Leiden, Holland prior to the migration to Plymouth. He traveled on the Mayflower with his wife and daughter Elizabeth. Also on the Mayflower was John's younger brother Edward. John and his wife Joan, as well as John's brother Edward, died in the first sickness in early 1621.
