Will of Pierre (Peter) Moragne, Sr.In the name of God Amen. I Peter Moragne Senr. of Abbeville District Planter sound of mind and memory thanks be to god for the same, calling to mind the Mortality of my body, I ordain and constitute this for my last Will and Testament, that is, first of all I commit my soul into the hands of god who give It & my body to the earth to be buried in a Christian manner and as touching my worldly Estate with which it has pleased god to bless me, I give, bequeath and dispose in the following Manner viz
1st I give and bequeath to my son Peter Moragne Junr and to his Heirs and assigns for ever a Plantation pf one hundred acres of land, granted to me, situate & being in Abbeville District on waters of little river, on which I do reside also another Plantation joining the above Eastwardly granted to Mary Bayle my Mother in law, reserving twenty five of the same to be bequeathed to my son Francis. Also another tract of fifty five acres of land granted to me joining the northwardly also seventeen acres of land surveyed for me and Joining the above first mentioned plantation Southwardly, with all their appurtenances, belonging or in any wise incident to them, also two lots of four acres of land adjoining the above. I also give and bequeath to my said Son Peter a Negro man named John and a Mulato wench named Jean with all her Children that she has or may have hereafter, reserving one hundred Dollars that my said son Peter shall pay to my Daughter Mary wife of Peter Roger after my Death. Likewise I do give to my said son Peter all my personal property, cattle, Horses, Hogs, plantation tools
2d. I give and bequeath to my son Francis Moragne besides what he has already received from me twenty five Acres of land to be cut off from that plantation originally granted to Mary Bayle, well understood that it is my will that the said twenty five acres shall be taken off along the Eastward line of said plantation
3d I give and bequeath to my son John Moragne besides what he has already received from me fourty acres of land Bounding Northwardly on Jacob Boutiton & Southwardly by a plantation granted to my wife Cecile Baylo his mother.
4th. I give and bequeath to my son Isaac Moragne a plantation of one hundred granted to my wife Cecile Bayle his Mother and adjoining West wardly the lands given to my son Peter, having giving to my said son Isaac already what I intended besides said land.
5th I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Mary Besides the hundred Dollars my son Peter is to pay to her after my death & what she has al ready received a plantation of seventy two acres of land granted to me being westwardly of the land above mentioned Situate on the Augusta road whereon liberty Meeting house Stands, reserving four Acres for the use of said Meeting house & the Spring, which I give for the benefit of said Meeting house.
6th. I leave my books to be divided between my five children. I name for Executors of this my last will and Testament my son Peter Moragne Junr & Peter Gibert Senr. revoking and anulling all other former Testaments heretofore made, confirming and ratifying this to be my last will and Testament.
Witness my hand & seal this twentieth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred and seven and in the thirty second year of the Independence of the United States of America. Signed, Sealed, Published and Pronounced by said Peter Moragne Senr. to be his last will & testament and at his request in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our Names.
