Abiel How did not leave awill and on 16 July 1850 heirs-at-law of the estate Stephen and Ruth Hoyt,Belinda Goodwin, and Rufus How requested that Merrill Pettengill of Boston benamed administrator. This request was joined by that of widow Mary J. How. Estatewas valued at $216.68. A later accounting by the administrator showed an estatevalue of $2,056.55, most of that in the form of rents collected.
