Probate
In his will written 14 April 1838 (probate 9 July1839), Daniel Osgood of Blue Hill bequeathed to his beloved wife her wearingapparel and household furniture and notes he has contracted with their sonDaniel to provide for her maintenance and support during her natural life. DaughtersRue Osgood, Fanny Osgood, and Eliza S. Osgood receive the field west of thehouse and an undivided half of another tract of land as described. The otherhalf of the last lot is bequeathed to son Nathan who also receives a pasture.Daughters Mary Lord, Sarah Gould, and Abigail Danforth each receives onehundred dollars. Son Daniel receives twenty acres of the Bluehill pasture. Henotes he has executed a life-lease to son Nathan for the gristmill, and theremainder is to go to Nathan’s children after Nathan’s decease. The residue ofthe estate goes to daughter Rue for her faithful and affectionate attendance tohim in his old age. If daughter Eliza S. marries, her legacies are to go to Rueand Fanny and Eliza is to be paid two hundred dollars. Son Daniel was namedexecutor. The will specifies portions of the real estate that may be sold fordebts and legacies. Real estate was 160 acres with buildings and one-half thedwelling house with a total value of $4,450.
