Will
In his will dated 2 March 1772, Joshua Abbott orders that all his property (except his household furniture) be sold following his death. One-third of the proceeds is to be set aside for his wife Phebe. His wife is to also have her choice of one of his cows. The remainder of the proceeds are to be divided among his children: oldest son Joshua and other sons Stephen and Peter, with the sons to have £4 more than any of the daughters; daughter Phebe the wife of John Everden; daughters Elizabeth and Sarah are to have equal portions; and the youngest son Joseph to be provided for by the executor from the estate proceeds until he arrives at an age to be bound out as an apprentice. At the age of 21, Joseph will receive a cash payment for his portion.Endnotes
