Probate
In his will dated 26 May 1789 (probate 20 July1789), Moody Morse, Jr. of Sutton bequeathed to beloved wife Abigail the twobest cows, all the household furniture, his wearing apparel, and a portionequal to one of the sons to be hers forever. Abigail also receives the incomeof two-thirds of the farm until son Jonathan arrives at age twenty-one. Afterthat time, Abigail is to have a comfortable maintenance provided by Jonathan. SonJonathan receives the whole of the real estate and is to make payment of thelegacies to wife Abigail and beloved children Molly, Moses, Prudence, Charles,and Silence, paying a sum equal to one-half the value of the farm and dividedso that Abigail, Moses, and Charles receive twice the amount of the daughters.Solomon Leland, Esq. was named executor. In a postscript dated 7 July 1789, Mosesadds that the personal estate is to be in the hands of the executor for paymentof debts and any residue divided among his wife and children. Moody Morse, Jr. served from Sutton as private inthe Minute-men company of Capt. John Putnam that marched on 19 April 1775 withservice of one week, six days. He served as Sergeant in the company of Capt.Rueben Sibley, regiment of Col.
