Case 78In his will written 11 July 1835 (proved 7 November 1837), John L. Abbot bequeaths his wearing apparel to his sons Samuel Abbot and William Abbot. Daughter Martha J. Abbot and son William Abbot each receives five hundred dollars. Widow Elizabeth Manning formerly the wife of son Rev. John L. Abbot receives fifty dollars. The executor is authorized to sell real estate, if necessary, to pay any debts, funeral charges, and the monetary legacies. Daughter-in-law Mrs. Ruth Abbot receives two cows, six sheep, and one-half of the swine. That with what was previously given to her late husband George Abbot completes her portion of the estate. Of the residue of the estate, one-fifth part is bequeathed to son Samuel Abbot who is to hold this portion in trust for the benefit of daughter Hannah Herrick wife of Elijah L. Herrick. After Hannah's decease, this fifth portion is to go to her heirs-at-law. One-fifth part of the reside of the estate is bequeathed to Sarah Elizabeth Hull and Martha Abbot Hull, the children of his daughter Sarah and Sidney Hull. The remaining three-fifths of the residue is bequeathed to children Samuel Abbot, William Abbot, and Martha J. Abbot. Son Samuel Abbot was named executor. Real estate was valued at inventory at $9,919.00 and personal estate at $1,032.37.
